What are Dr. Swamy’s areas of expertise?

While I am a rheumatologist by training, I am an internist at heart. I maintain an academic interest in the management of patients with systemic autoimmune diseases such as Systemic Lupus Erythematosus and Sjogren’s syndrome, inflammatory muscle diseases, Vasculitis and Inflammatory arthritis.

What is Dr. Swamy’s philosophy?

Old fashioned really. My philosophy is to treat each person as a unique individual and try to understand each person’s unique illness experience. I then try to incorporate my understanding of the biological processes in play to reach as exact a biomedical diagnosis as possible. Finally, I recommend an individualized treatment regimen to each person based on my diagnosis.

Where is Dr. Swamy's medical practice located?

Our office is located at 8737 Beverly Blvd, across the street from Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles. Dr. Swamy has admitting and consulting privileges at Cedars Sinai Medical Center, where he holds the title of Clinical Chief of Rheumatology.

Does Dr. Swamy provide second opinions?

Yes, Dr. Swamy is available to provide second opinions regarding diagnostic issues, management problems and treatment plan oversight. Please make sure you mention that you are coming for a second opinion, so that additional time may be alloted if needed.

Is Doctor Swamy accepting new patients?

Yes.

Where do I park?

There is limited street parking around the office. There is an excellent valet service parking in the building itself; the maximum cost for this is $8.80. Additionally, for patients who can walk, there is parking in the nearby Beverly Center Mall for $1-2 per hour.

How can I make an appointment to see Dr. Swamy?

What information does Dr. Swamy require from me?

If you are a new patient, please send as much information to the office as possible prior to your visit to make the most of your visit. We usually like to have copies of previous consultations, discharge summaries, laboratory work, imaging study results.

Can you see Dr. Swamy on an urgent basis?

Although "walk-in" visits are not encouraged, we can usually accommodate same-day service with Dr. Swamy or one of his associates in urgent situations for established patients. We ask that you call the office in advance so that we may prepare for your visit and try to avoid having you wait while you are not feeling well.

What happens if I am running late or if I need to cancel my appointment?

It is important that you arrive on time for your appointment. That allows us to take care of you  in the most efficient manner. Dr. Swamy strives to see all his patients on time. However, on occasion due to emergencies, you may have a slight wait to see him. We will try to keep you informed if Dr. Swamy is running behind schedule.

How does one communicate with the office?

You could communicate with the office by phone, or using the secure portal that is linked on this website. We use eClinicalWorks for our electronic medical record. The web portal lets you communicate easily, safely and securely with the office. You can set up an account to see your labs, medical history, statements and exchange messages with the office.          

How is Patient Portal different than regular e-mail?

Patient Portal uses a single, centrally managed, secure database which ensures that messages cannot be intercepted, deleted, copied, or altered in any way.

Which hospital does Dr. Swamy have privilages at?

I am available for  consultation at Cedars Sinai. Since my practice is based mostly in the outpatient setting, I use a hospitalist group (ISP)  and other hospital groups at Cedars Sinai hospital for admissions.  

Which insurances does the practice accept?

At the present time, Dr. Swamy is contracted with medicare and a few selected PPO plans. However, our office can see patients with any PPO plan. Your visit may be treated as an out of network visit for some plans. In such cases as a courtesy to the patient, our office will bill the insurance company on behalf of the patient. We are not contracted with any HMO plans.

What if I am out of network or on an HMO plan?

If you have an HMO, you might consider seeing us as a cash patient. You might qualify for a sliding scale payment plan, or be able to participate in clinical trial etc.  Our office will its best to accommodate patients who are a good fit into our practice model.  

Even if we are not not in your network, there might be ways for you to get reimburesed for seeing us. Health care spending accounts with your employer may be one way you could see physicians out of your usual network.
